今回は、11月12日に終わった過去最長の連邦政府閉鎖とそれが今後の政治に与えうる影響、エプスタイン関連の資料公開と閉鎖の関係について取り上げています。また、かつてないほど多くのアメリカ在住の若い女性（40％超！）が外国に移住することを望んでいるとする調査についても話しています。

This week, we discussed the end of the government shutdown and the political ramifications on both Democrats and Republicans, as well as the Epstein files/emails that are gradually being released. We also talked about a fascinating poll by Gallup that says that 40% of younger women (aged 15 to 44) in the U.S. would like to move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity (I totally understand women wanting to leave–but 40% is indeed a high number!

今回は11月4日に行われた選挙（特に急進左派のマムダニ氏がNY市長として当選したことの政治的な意義、バージニアにおける民主党の勝利や初の女性知事誕生、カリフォルニアにおける選挙区の区割り変更など）を取り上げています。「わーしんとんイングリッシュ」では、選挙においては通常と異なる使い方をする言葉（call, poll(s)) について話しました。過去最長となり、今も続いている連邦政府閉鎖と、フライト数削減といった影響についても話しています。

This week, we discussed the various elections that took place on Nov. 4th (Mamdani and what his victory might mean for politics; the blue wave in Virginia, including the first woman governor-elect; redistricting in California; etc.). I talked about some common words that are used differently when it comes to elections, like “call [the race]” and “[at the] polls.” We also discussed the ongoing federal government shutdown that’s now the longest in history, as well as its impact (including reduced flights).

This week, we discussed the murder of Charlie Kirk, the ICE raid on Hyundai’s plant in Georgia, the Supreme Court’s decision on ICE raids in general, and more. There’s a lot of depressing news, but we did get to touch upon some positive developments, like Hitachi’s new railcar factory in Maryland, as well as GAP’s awesome marketing using KATSEYE.

今回はクラッカー・バレルのロゴをめぐる騒動を取り上げました。広報、ロゴ、アート好きの私としてはとっても楽しいお話をさせていただきました！比較として、私の母校であるダートマス大学のロゴの変化についてもお話ししました（写真にあるのは変更前のもので、アメリカ先住民を教育する機関として創設された歴史を描写し、どうにも上から目線な図となっていました）。

This week, one of the main topics was the brouhaha with Cracker Barrel’s logo. As someone who loves communications, messaging, and art, I really enjoyed talking about this! I also mentioned the 2018 logo change of Dartmouth College (my alma mater); the old one, shown here, was problematic in its portrayal of the school’s history (it was founded as an institution to educate Native American people).

『週刊ワシントン』は、DCを中心とした政治・経済ニュースを解説する番組で、ワシントン支局長の涌井さんといろいろなゲストの方のざっくばらんな対話が魅力です。リスナーとしては、肩肘張らない楽しいやり取りが素敵だな、と思っていたところ、今回ご一緒させていただくことになって本当に光栄でした！

今回私からは、今ニュースで話題になっている言葉の分析（gerrymandering, hotなど）、生い立ちや通訳者としての経験、自分のポッドキャストの根底にある思いなどについてお話しさせていただきました。

Washington Weekly discusses political and economic news in the DC region. The DC bureau chief, Wakui-san, explains the latest developments (especially information that may not be getting a lot of coverage in Japan) in bite-size, digestible pieces, often welcoming guests who are experts in certain areas. I’ve enjoyed listening to many of their episodes, and it was really cool to be able to play a small part in their episode this week!
